An 18-year-old PennWest California soccer player was fatally stabbed Aug. 19, and Pennsylvania State Police say her boyfriend is accused of killing her before seeking help from his mother to conceal what happened. Karoline Jordyn Heintz, 18, of McMurray, was found shortly after midnight Aug. 20 inside the rear hatch of her Jeep Cherokee near the California Public Library in California Borough, Washington County. A 45-year-old Texas cold case has led to an arrest after investigators used preserved DNA evidence and newer genetic testing methods to identify a suspect in the killing of 23-year-old Yolanda Herrera. Kelly Lee Brower Sr., 68, was arrested Aug. 19 in Cottonwood, Arizona, in connection with Herrera’s 1981 murder, according to the Universal City Police Department. He is facing a capital murder charge and is awaiting extradition to Texas. Herrera was last seen in the early morning hours of April 11, 1981, after leaving Johnny’s Inn in Universal City. A Pennsylvania mother and her two children locked themselves inside an upstairs bathroom Monday afternoon after a man allegedly forced his way into their home, according to Plymouth Township police. The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. Aug. 24 at a home in the 2900 block of Arch Road in Plymouth Township. Police said the homeowner called 911 after seeing a man banging on and attempting to force open a side door. ATLANTA — An Atlanta woman has been sentenced to 16 years and three months in federal prison after a jury found her responsible for a fraud operation that caused Amazon to lose about $9.4 million, according to federal prosecutors. TOWSON, Md. — Several people were arrested Wednesday night after Baltimore County police responded to a large gathering that had become disruptive in Towson, authorities said. A 36-year-old man was fatally shot during an armed robbery at a Brighton Park gas station early Tuesday, and his family is now asking for answers as investigators work to identify those responsible. A 71-year-old White Lake man died and a Taylor man was injured after a boat traveling at an excessively high speed crashed Tuesday afternoon on Oxbow Lake in White Lake Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened at about 2:28 p.m. on August 25, when the boat became airborne, came down on its side and sank in roughly 50 feet of water, investigators said. The operator, identified as Kirk Magnuson of White Lake, went underwater with the vessel and did not resurface. The passenger, a 56-year-old Taylor man, was thrown into the water during the crash.…
