A fatal hit-and-run in South Los Angeles has left one person dead, and police are searching for the driver who fled the scene Friday night.
The collision was reported shortly before 10 p.m. on Broadway in the Florence neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Investigators are working to identify the vehicle involved and determine what led to the deadly incident.
Police are looking for a black vehicle, possibly a sedan, that may have visible damage to its front end. The driver’s identity and whereabouts have not been released.
Authorities have not publicly identified the person who died. A witness described the victim as a man riding an electric scooter, although officials have not confirmed further details about his identity or circumstances before the collision.
Broadway was closed in both directions between 85th Place and 83rd Street as authorities responded to the scene and investigated the crash. The closure affected traffic in the surrounding area while emergency crews worked.
Hit-and-run investigations can depend on witness accounts, vehicle descriptions and other available evidence to help investigators identify a driver who leaves the scene. In this case, police have not announced an arrest or provided additional information about a possible suspect.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision or noticed a black vehicle with front-end damage in the area may have information that could help investigators establish what happened.
