A 34-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting Saturday evening at the P.T. Barnum Housing Complex in Bridgeport, about two weeks after another man was fatally shot at the same complex.
Bridgeport police said they received a ShotSpotter alert at 5:42 p.m. reporting eight rounds fired between Buildings 10 and 11. Officers responding to the area found the victim’s unoccupied vehicle with multiple bullet holes.
The injured man had been taken to Bridgeport Hospital in another vehicle, according to police. He underwent emergency surgery for multiple gunshot wounds and remained in critical condition, authorities said.
Detectives interviewed the person who drove the victim to the hospital. Police said the victim’s vehicle was towed as evidence, while members of the Major Crime Unit processed the shooting scene.
The investigation remains active, and police have not publicly identified a suspect or announced a motive.
The shooting happened two weeks after 46-year-old Johnny Nesmith was fatally shot at the P.T. Barnum complex on Aug. 9. Police said Nesmith was shot multiple times near Building 21 at about 1 a.m., shortly after a reunion involving current and former residents of the complex.
Nesmith, a former P.T. Barnum resident, was later pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. Police have since released photographs of a person of interest in that homicide and are asking anyone with information or cellphone video from the area to contact investigators.
Authorities have not said that the two shootings are connected.
Both investigations remain ongoing.
