A 13-year-old boy was critically injured Friday afternoon after a 9-year-old boy fired a gun inside a home in Chicago’s Fuller Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police. The shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Wells Street. Police said the two boys were inside the residence when the 9-year-old fired a single shot, striking the 13-year-old in the shoulder. Concerns over the treatment of animals living on Los Angeles’ Skid Row are drawing renewed attention as animal advocates push for stronger enforcement and more resources for pets living alongside their unhoused owners. A 41-year-old Jeannette man is facing multiple charges after police say he robbed a Walgreens pharmacy in North Huntingdon Township at gunpoint Wednesday morning and later pointed a cocked revolver toward officers in the parking lot. Sean Lane was not struck when a North Huntingdon Township police officer fired several shots during the confrontation outside the Walgreens near Route 30. A Bethel Park family found themselves trapped inside their car Thursday night when a large tree came crashing down during severe storms, leaving them surrounded by branches and power lines until two nearby residents rushed to help. Maggie Sheffer was driving with her husband and their three young daughters when the family turned onto Highland from Bethel Church. Without warning, the tree struck their vehicle, shattering the windshield and forcing the roof downward. Rachel Frislid, a 62-year-old Sayville woman, was found dead inside her home Thursday night, prompting a homicide investigation by Suffolk County police. Frislid was found unconscious by a family member at her home on Pearl Court at about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 3, according to police. First responders pronounced her dead at the scene. A Minnesota pool contractor who took hundreds of thousands of dollars from homeowners for projects that were never completed has been sentenced to five years in federal prison. Charles Ray Workman, 41, of Scott County, received a 60-month sentence on September 3 after pleading guilty to wire fraud. He was also ordered to pay $1.15 million in restitution to people affected by the scheme. Workman owned Minnesota Crete Pools, LLC, which marketed and sold concrete swimming pools and installation services in the Twin Cities area.
