Two teenagers from Broward County are facing multiple charges after authorities say they attempted to break into parked vehicles in Miami Beach before stealing a luxury Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon that later crashed in Hollywood.

The teens, ages 14 and 16, were taken into custody following the crash, according to arrest reports. The incident began with attempted car burglaries in Miami Beach and ended with a heavily damaged luxury SUV landing on top of another vehicle carrying a mother and her two children.

Fortunately, the family involved in the Hollywood collision did not suffer any injuries.

Masked suspects caught on home surveillance

Miami Beach police said the attempted burglaries occurred around 1 p.m. Wednesday near the 3400 block of Chase Avenue.

Home surveillance footage reportedly showed three masked individuals getting out of a red Tesla sedan and approaching several vehicles parked in a residential driveway.

The suspects allegedly tried to gain access to the parked cars, including a Mercedes-Benz Maybach. However, the vehicles were locked, preventing them from entering.

The incident raised concerns about vehicle security in the neighborhood, particularly as the suspects allegedly moved from attempting to enter parked cars to targeting a much more expensive vehicle later that day.

Investigators are examining the events surrounding the attempted burglaries and the subsequent theft as part of the case.

$260,000 G-Wagon tracked into Broward County

Several hours after the Miami Beach incident, the teenagers allegedly stole a bronze 2027 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon from a residence on Southwest 136th Street in the Kendall area, according to arrest reports.

The luxury SUV was valued at approximately $260,000.

After discovering the vehicle was missing, its owner contacted Mercedes-Benz and obtained live tracking information. The tracking system reportedly showed the G-Wagon traveling north along Florida’s Turnpike toward Broward County.

Vehicle tracking technology can help owners and law enforcement locate stolen cars, although the recovery process can become dangerous when a vehicle is moving at high speeds or through busy traffic.

In this case, the tracking information helped reveal the SUV’s route as the situation unfolded across county lines.

The vehicle eventually reached Hollywood, where the pursuit ended in a crash near North Park Road and Sheridan Street.

Crash leaves G-Wagon on top of another SUV

Video of the incident showed the bronze G-Wagon traveling along the roadway with multiple Hollywood police vehicles following behind.

As the SUV approached a red traffic light, several vehicles were stopped ahead. The driver appeared to try to squeeze between them, striking other vehicles during the maneuver.

The collision ended with the G-Wagon coming to rest on top of a blue SUV.

Inside that vehicle was a mother and her two children, who were caught in the middle of the sudden crash.

The woman later described the frightening moment, saying she was attempting to turn onto North Park Road when the luxury SUV suddenly struck her vehicle.

The collision happened within seconds, leaving little time for the family to react.

Despite the dramatic scene and the damage to the vehicles, the mother and her children escaped without injuries.

The incident highlights how a vehicle theft can quickly become a danger to people who have nothing to do with the crime. Drivers stopped at an intersection or waiting to make a turn may have little opportunity to avoid a collision when another vehicle approaches unexpectedly.

    Teen suspects face multiple charges

According to arrest reports, both teenagers were taken into custody after the G-Wagon crashed.

The 14-year-old suspect, who is from Fort Lauderdale, reportedly gave detectives a full confession.

The 16-year-old, who is from Sunrise, was identified by the G-Wagon’s owner as the person who allegedly stole the vehicle, the reports stated.

The teens are facing multiple charges, including grand theft and burglary. The precise charges and any additional allegations will be determined through the legal process.

Because both suspects are minors, their cases may be handled under Florida’s juvenile justice system, depending on the charges and decisions made by prosecutors. Florida law also allows certain juvenile cases to be transferred to adult court under specific circumstances.

An arrest or confession does not, by itself, establish guilt. The allegations must be addressed through the appropriate legal proceedings.

Owner waiting to recover personal belongings

Beyond the damage to the expensive SUV, the theft left the vehicle’s owner concerned about personal items that were inside.

The owner said he was waiting to learn when authorities would allow him to recover his wife’s purse and other belongings from the vehicle.

The recovery of a stolen vehicle can involve more than locating it. After a crash, investigators may need to document evidence, assess damage and complete their work before personal property can be returned.

The extent of the damage to the G-Wagon and the other vehicles involved was not fully detailed in the available reports.

A reminder about vehicle theft prevention

The case also illustrates why residents are encouraged to take precautions when parking vehicles, especially expensive models that may attract thieves.

Locking car doors, keeping keys and key fobs secure, removing valuables from view and activating available anti-theft and tracking features can help reduce risks. Homeowners with driveways may also consider surveillance cameras and adequate outdoor lighting.

However, no single security measure can guarantee that a vehicle will not be targeted.

For the family whose blue SUV was struck in Hollywood, the most important outcome was that everyone survived without physical injuries. For the vehicle’s owner, the next step is recovering his damaged G-Wagon and the personal belongings left inside.

What began as an alleged series of attempted car burglaries in Miami Beach ultimately ended in a serious roadway collision in Broward County, leaving investigators to sort through the allegations and the consequences of the incident.
