A 17-year-old McDonald’s employee was fatally stabbed during a confrontation with a teenage co-worker at a restaurant in Cypress, Texas, leaving his family grieving and investigators working to establish what led to the deadly incident.

Reginald “RJ” Harrell was working at the restaurant on Louetta Road on Wednesday night, October 7, when an altercation reportedly broke out between him and a 16-year-old co-worker. According to authorities, deputies responding to a stabbing call found Harrell inside the restaurant’s bathroom with multiple stab wounds.

Harrell was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old suspect was taken into custody and charged with murder, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Family Says Harrell Was Not Supposed to Work That Night

The circumstances surrounding Harrell’s final shift have made the loss especially difficult for his family. Relatives said he was not scheduled to work that night, making the tragedy even harder for them to comprehend.

Harrell was a student at Cypress Creek High School and had plans for his future. Family members said he hoped to become a welder after graduation, a goal he will never have the opportunity to pursue.

His mother, Denisha Dennis, expressed her heartbreak while speaking about the loss of her youngest child. She said he did not deserve to have his life taken from him and called for justice.

His sister, Kourtnee Dennis, also described the shock of losing her brother so suddenly. She said she never imagined that the last time he left home for work would be the last time she would see or speak to him.

For the family, the unanswered questions surrounding the confrontation have added to their grief.

    What Police Have Confirmed

Authorities have confirmed that the two teenagers worked together at the same McDonald’s location. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, with deputies responding to reports of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found Harrell suffering from multiple stab wounds in the restaurant’s bathroom. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The teenage suspect was arrested and placed in the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities have not publicly identified him, and the reason for the confrontation has not been established in the information released so far.

Investigators have not publicly detailed what triggered the dispute or how it escalated into a fatal stabbing. Those details remain central to understanding what happened inside the restaurant.

    McDonald’s Location Temporarily Closed

The restaurant where the teenagers worked was temporarily closed following Harrell’s death as the incident was addressed and employees dealt with its aftermath.

Owner-operator Michael Gutierrez expressed condolences to Harrell’s family and others affected by the tragedy. He said the immediate priority was supporting restaurant employees as they processed what had happened.

The incident has left co-workers and loved ones facing the sudden loss of a teenager whose future was still taking shape.

As the investigation continues, Harrell’s family is left mourning his death while seeking accountability. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a motive for the confrontation, and further details about the case remain pending.
