PHOENIX — Two former Phoenix police officers have been fired and arrested after investigators determined they assaulted a man and woman during an unreported traffic stop earlier this month, authorities said. Former officers Luis Vasquez Jr. and Antonio Felix were arrested Saturday after the Phoenix Police Department investigated the Aug. 5 encounter. Police Chief Matt Giordano said detectives determined that both former officers physically assaulted the two people and that a Taser was used during the stop. Authorities are searching for 44-year-old Jerome Woody after he escaped custody from a hospital room in Marysville early Sunday morning. The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office said Woody escaped from Adventist Health Rideout Hospital shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. Woody had been receiving medical care while in custody and was being watched by a private security company contracted by Sutter County to provide nonviolent prisoner watches, according to authorities. Two people were killed Saturday morning in Mays Landing when a stolen vehicle crashed head-on into another vehicle, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Aug. 22 near Route 50 and Third Street in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township. The two people killed were identified as Robert Barr Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67, both of Egg Harbor Township, authorities said.
