A 40-year-old man has been arrested after police said surveillance footage showed him killing a mother duck and several ducklings in Pembroke Pines. Christopher Antoine was taken into custody Monday after a Good Samaritan recognized him from a flyer released by the Pembroke Pines Police Department and contacted authorities, police said. He is facing charges of aggravated animal abuse and violation of probation. The incident happened Aug. 30 in the area of University Drive and Northwest 13th Street. A San Jose city electrician was killed while repairing a streetlight Tuesday morning after a box truck struck the bucket truck he was working from, leaving his family seeking answers about how the collision happened. Ari Green, 50, was working from an elevated bucket on a San Jose Department of Transportation truck near Hillsdale Avenue and Narvaez Avenue on Aug. 25 when the crash occurred. A 59-year-old Fairfield man was arrested Monday after police said he threatened people inside a San Benito Street home while armed with a firearm, leading to a standoff that lasted about 90 minutes. Officers responded to a residence in the 1900 block of San Benito Street after receiving a report of an armed man threatening people inside the home. EL PASO, Texas — El Paso police are investigating the death of a man in his 50s who was found inside an Upper Valley home Monday morning with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Officers were called around 9:40 a.m. Sept. 7 to the 4900 block of Vista Grande Circle, near Country Club Drive, after receiving a report that prompted a response to the residence. A 23-year-old Pensacola woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend was removed from a Florida courtroom Friday after repeatedly insisting that she had acted in self-defense. Ashanti Brown is facing charges of second-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in connection with the death of 26-year-old Ian Pleasant at the couple’s Madison Shores apartment. During a probable cause hearing, Brown became emotional while an investigator was testifying. She reportedly shouted that Pleasant had been beating her and insisted she had done nothing wrong. An armed man was arrested Sunday after pushing through a crowd toward Democratic Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton during a campaign stop at the Canfield Fair, authorities said. Several people were injured in the incident, while Acton was not hurt. Steubenville, Ohio — Joe Pierro, a longtime teacher and coach who spent more than three decades working with students and athletes in Steubenville, has died unexpectedly at age 60. Pierro died Friday, Sept. 4, after being struck by lightning while mowing his lawn in Steubenville, according to later reports citing the National Lightning Safety Council. His death came only weeks after his retirement from the Steubenville City School District. Pierro was widely known around Steubenville High School as a teacher, mentor and coach.
