Two Boston police officers were taken to a local hospital Sunday evening after being injured while attempting to take a person into custody, according to the department.

The incident occurred around 7:31 p.m. on October 18, when officers assigned to Boston’s South End district encountered a person who police said had been recognized in connection with larceny incidents reported earlier that day.

Both officers received medical attention for injuries that were described as non-life-threatening. Officials have not disclosed exactly how the officers were hurt or provided further details about the encounter.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, including whether the individual was successfully taken into custody and whether that person sustained any injuries.

    What Police Have Confirmed

According to the Boston Police Department, the officers were attempting to take the individual into custody when they were injured.

The person had reportedly been recognized from earlier larceny incidents on Sunday. However, police have not released additional information about those incidents, including where they occurred, what was allegedly stolen or whether any charges have been filed.

Authorities also have not explained what happened immediately before the officers were injured.

    Officers Expected to Recover

The department confirmed that both officers were transported to a nearby hospital and that their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police have not released their names or provided further information about their conditions.

Incidents involving injuries during arrests can require additional review to establish how an encounter unfolded and whether anyone else was hurt. At this stage, officials have not announced any further findings related to Sunday’s incident.

    Investigation Details Remain Limited

Several questions remain unanswered as authorities have yet to release a more detailed account of the encounter.

Police have not confirmed the identity of the individual involved, the person’s custody status or whether the incident resulted in criminal charges.

Further information from the department could clarify how the confrontation developed and what led to the officers’ injuries.

For now, the confirmed details remain limited: two South End district officers were injured during a custody attempt Sunday evening, both were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, and the department has not released additional information about the individual involved.
