A welfare check at a family home in Casey, Wisconsin, led to a disturbing discovery after a 25-year-old man allegedly told deputies he had killed his father and that the older man had been dead for more than an hour.
Colton Christopherson is accused of killing his 56-year-old father, Allan Christopherson, on September 26. According to the criminal complaint, investigators believe the younger man stabbed his father in the neck multiple times before covering his body with a tarp in the home’s laundry room.
The case came to light when relatives and acquaintances reportedly raised concerns about Colton’s recent behavior and possible drug use. Deputies went to the residence to check on Allan’s well-being, not knowing they would encounter a suspected homicide.
As deputies approached the property, they saw Colton coming out of the garage. He appeared nervous, and his hand was reportedly shaking noticeably when he greeted one of the deputies.
When officers asked where his father was, Colton allegedly lowered his head, looked toward the house and said that Allan was dead. Asked what had happened, he reportedly responded, “I killed him.”
Deputies then handcuffed him and continued asking questions. According to the complaint, Colton said his father had been dead for more than an hour and identified a knife as the weapon used in the killing.
Investigators Describe an Alleged Attempt to Conceal the Killing
Authorities say the events following the alleged stabbing added another troubling layer to the investigation.
According to the complaint, Colton told police he had initially tried to take his father’s body to family hunting land in Washburn County. However, he reportedly became frightened after encountering another person at the property and abandoned that plan.
Prosecutors allege that he then transported his father’s body back to the family residence in Casey, where he intended to bury it later, after dark.
Investigators also reported finding signs of an attempted cleanup inside the home. Blood was discovered in several areas, including the basement, where deputies noted bloody footprints near a pool table. The complaint alleges that Colton had been washing rugs and wiping down the floor in an effort to remove evidence.
When deputies located Allan, he was lying face down on what was described as a pool table cover, with a green tarp draped over his body.
The allegations outlined in the complaint are part of the prosecution’s account of the case. They have not, by themselves, established guilt in court.
Son Allegedly Described Why He Killed His Father
Investigators also documented what Colton reportedly said about the events leading up to the killing.
According to prosecutors, Colton had traveled from Minnesota because he believed his father had hired someone to kill him. He allegedly told police that Allan confirmed his suspicion during a confrontation between the two.
The complaint states that Colton believed killing his father himself was preferable to allowing someone else to do it. Authorities have not established through the allegations alone whether the reported belief had any factual basis.
Police arrested Colton, and he was charged with first-degree intentional homicide. The charge is a serious accusation, and the case will be subject to the criminal court process.
Allan Christopherson Remembered as a Teacher and Golf Coach
Beyond the criminal investigation, Allan Christopherson’s death has drawn attention to his career as an educator and high school golf coach.
He was associated with Wayzata High School in Minnesota, where he helped lead the boys golf team to state championships in 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2017.
A tribute shared by the team’s Instagram account remembered his influence on generations of young golfers and the lasting impression he made on those who knew him.
His coaching career connected him with students, athletes and families over many years. The news of his death has therefore extended beyond the Wisconsin community where the alleged killing took place.
The investigation now moves into the legal process, where prosecutors will have to present evidence supporting the homicide charge. Colton Christopherson is accused of the killing, and the allegations must be resolved through the courts.
