Newly unsealed court documents are providing more details about the events surrounding the fatal shooting of a woman in Aldie, Virginia, and investigators’ allegations that her husband had planned the killing before it happened.
Roger Bradford, 60, is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the death of his wife, 54-year-old Lisa Bradford. Deputies found Lisa dead inside the couple’s home on the 24000 block of Quimby Oaks Place on September 22.
According to the newly unsealed court filings, investigators believe the shooting was not an impulsive act. The documents allege that Bradford took several steps that morning before returning to the family home.
Investigators say Bradford first went to a storage facility in Ashburn, where he retrieved .45-caliber ammunition from a locker. He then drove to a Home Depot in South Riding and allegedly purchased 36-inch zip ties before heading back toward the Aldie residence.
Authorities say he arrived at the home around 9 a.m. Lisa was later found fatally shot inside the residence. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received a report of the shooting at about 12:10 p.m.
After the shooting, Bradford allegedly contacted a relative and told the person what had happened. Authorities said the relative then contacted law enforcement and asked that the couple’s daughter be picked up so she would not return home and discover her mother.
Bradford had already left the area in a rental vehicle by the time deputies arrived. A search involving authorities in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania followed, and Pennsylvania State Police arrested him in Bedford, Pennsylvania, at approximately 3:15 p.m.
The investigation took another turn after police searched the rental vehicle.
According to the newly unsealed documents, investigators found a journal containing a list of potential targets. Lisa Bradford’s name was reportedly at the top, along with a notation indicating that she was supposed to be killed on September 22 — the same day she was fatally shot. Authorities have not publicly identified the other people listed or explained where Bradford may have been headed when he was arrested.
Investigators have also continued looking for evidence connected to the shooting. The firearm allegedly used in Lisa Bradford’s killing has not been recovered, and her cellphone was also reported missing from the home.
The case also comes against the backdrop of serious strain in the couple’s marriage.
Court records show that Bradford had previously pleaded guilty in a federal wire-fraud case involving a kickback scheme. In a January 2026 filing connected to his effort to challenge that conviction, he described the effect of his incarceration and criminal conviction on his personal and professional life.
In that filing, Bradford said his marriage to Lisa was moving toward divorce and described the possibility of the marriage ending as extremely difficult for him. The filing provides context about the deteriorating relationship, but it does not by itself establish what ultimately led to the alleged killing.
Lisa Bradford was a real estate agent in the Northern Virginia area and was remembered by friends and members of her community as someone who was involved with others around her. Loved ones later gathered in Aldie to honor her following her death.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has described the shooting as domestic in nature and said there was no continuing threat to the public. Bradford remained in custody in Pennsylvania pending extradition to Virginia, where he faces the murder and firearm charges.
The investigation remains ongoing, and allegations contained in court documents have not been proven in court.
