A commercial truck inspection on Interstate 70 in Putnam County led to the seizure of 277 pounds of cocaine and the arrest of a Greenwood man, according to Indiana State Police.

The traffic stop happened Sunday, Sept. 6, when a trooper with the Indiana State Police Criminal Interdiction Unit stopped an eastbound commercial vehicle on I-70 for an inspection.

The driver was identified as Harpreet Singh of Greenwood, Indiana. Police said Singh told the trooper he was transporting an empty trailer from Memphis, Tennessee, to Indianapolis.

During the stop, the trooper observed that Singh was operating the vehicle below industry standards, according to state police. The vehicle was subsequently impounded as officers continued their enforcement action.

Troopers then found several duffel bags containing approximately 277 pounds, or about 126 kilograms, of cocaine.

Indiana State Police estimated the street value of the seized cocaine at approximately $3.8 million.

Singh was taken into custody and transported to the Putnam County Jail. Initial police information did not provide additional details about the case or specify criminal charges.

The seizure was made by the Indiana State Police Criminal Interdiction Unit, which focuses on identifying illegal drugs and other contraband being transported along the state’s major highways.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as the case moves forward.
