A 35-year-old Spartanburg County woman is facing two counts of attempted murder after her two young children were found seriously injured inside their home during a welfare check on Sept. 26, authorities said.
Taylor Morgan Gosnell was taken into custody after deputies responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. to a residence on the 1400 block of Bud Arthur Bridge Road. The children, ages 3 and 6, were found at the home without an adult and were taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Investigators said the children appeared to have suffered injuries involving a knife. Authorities later determined that the attack allegedly happened during the overnight hours before deputies were called to the residence and involved both a knife and a blunt object.
The children’s injuries were described as severe. Both were expected to survive, but prosecutors said during a bond hearing that the injuries to the 6-year-old’s arm were serious enough that doctors may have to amputate part of the arm. Additional reports from the hearing said the injuries were deep and also raised concerns about possible damage to the child’s fingers.
The condition of the younger child was also serious, although authorities said both children were expected to recover. The siblings were subsequently placed in protective custody while they received medical treatment.
Deputies found signs of a violent struggle
Investigators also found extensive damage inside the residence. Several televisions and mirrors had been broken, adding to the evidence of a violent confrontation at the home.
Gosnell returned to the residence while deputies were investigating. Authorities said she was taken for a medical evaluation after officers observed concerning behavior. She was also reported to have tried to leave while being transported in an ambulance.
She was later booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Facility and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
At a bond hearing on Sept. 27, a judge denied bond and ordered Gosnell to remain in custody. The investigation remains active.
Previous child-related charges
The current case follows an earlier arrest involving allegations related to child safety.
According to previously reported court information, Gosnell was arrested in February 2024 on two counts involving allegations of unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing harm to a child, or willfully abandoning a child. Those charges were still pending, and bond had previously been set at $5,000 on each count.
Court records show Gosnell is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 12.
Authorities have not indicated that the investigation is complete, and additional details may become available as the case moves through the court system.
Gosnell is accused of the offenses and has not been convicted. The allegations against her will be addressed through the criminal court process.
