A North Adams man has been charged after a pickup truck lost control on Marshall Street and crashed into two businesses late Thursday night, leaving both storefronts closed while repairs are assessed.

A black Chevrolet Silverado crashed into Brewsters and Tres Ninos Taqueria at about 9:57 p.m. on August 27, according to information released after the crash.

Police identified the driver as John Miner, who is in his 40s. He faces charges of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked-lanes violation.

Investigators said Miner had turned from St. Anthony’s Drive onto Marshall Street and was traveling south when the truck began to lose traction. The rear of the vehicle reportedly fishtailed as it accelerated, causing Miner to lose control.

Witnesses told police they heard a vehicle accelerating before the crash.

Crash Damaged Two Marshall Street Businesses

The truck struck the front of Brewsters before continuing into the side of the neighboring Tres Ninos Taqueria. A light pole and parking meter were also damaged during the crash.

The businesses were closed at the time, meaning no customers or employees were inside when the truck hit the storefronts.

Miner was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. His passenger, who was wearing a seat belt, was evaluated at the scene and was not reported to have suffered serious injuries.

The driver’s condition has not been released.

    Storefronts Remain Closed

The crash left extensive glass damage at both businesses. Brewsters, a thrift store that opened in December, sustained damage to its front window, while a side window at Tres Ninos was damaged by the impact.

The damaged areas have since been secured, and both businesses remain closed while the extent of the repairs is determined.

A preliminary inspection found that most of the damage was concentrated around the glass storefronts. The building’s main structural supports were largely spared, reducing the possibility of more extensive structural damage.

Building owner David Carver said repairs will involve more than simply replacing standard windows. Some of the damaged storefront glass and the building’s historic front door will require custom fabrication.

    Repair Timeline Remains Unclear

There is currently no firm date for either business to reopen.

Carver said the cost and timeline for restoring the storefronts are still being determined. A repair plan is being developed, with insurance coordination expected to be part of the next stage.

For Brewsters and Tres Ninos, the crash means an interruption to normal operations while the damaged storefronts are repaired and the building is made ready for customers again.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, while the businesses remain closed pending repairs.
