A Pennsylvania mother and her two children locked themselves inside an upstairs bathroom Monday afternoon after a man allegedly forced his way into their home, according to Plymouth Township police.
The incident happened around 1:45 p.m. Aug. 24 at a home in the 2900 block of Arch Road in Plymouth Township. Police said the homeowner called 911 after seeing a man banging on and attempting to force open a side door.
While she remained on the phone with a dispatcher, the woman took her children upstairs and locked them inside a bathroom, police said. The suspect eventually entered the home and was reported to be in the kitchen.
Officers arrived while the man was trying to leave through a side door and took him into custody without incident. No one in the home was injured.
Police identified the suspect as 61-year-old Juan Medina.
Police Say Suspect Was Also Linked to Another Property
Investigators said Medina was carrying property believed to have been taken from a vehicle at another residence on the 3000 block of Arch Road.
The homeowner at that property told investigators that Medina did not enter the house, according to police. Authorities are now looking into whether additional homes or vehicles in the area may have been targeted.
Plymouth Township Police Detective Sgt. Christopher Schwartz said investigators are particularly interested in surveillance footage from homes along Arch Road.
Residents are being asked to review security-camera recordings and contact police if they see Medina or notice missing property from a vehicle or signs that someone attempted to enter their home.
Suspect Remains in Custody
Medina faces charges including first-degree felony burglary, second-degree felony criminal trespass, criminal mischief, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and theft from a motor vehicle, according to the latest reports.
He was arraigned before District Judge Patrick Krouse, and bail was set at $50,000 cash. Because he was unable to post bail, he was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 8, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., before District Judge Jodi Griffis.
Police have not said whether additional charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
The incident occurred in broad daylight, and investigators are continuing to ask residents in the area to check their surveillance footage for information that could help determine whether other properties were targeted.
