A Miami man’s Tinder date ended with two watches reportedly missing from his apartment, including a Rolex valued at $37,000, and police later arrested the woman he had met through the dating app.
Alexia Jocelyn Flores, 24, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the reported theft and is facing a second-degree grand theft charge, according to the arrest report.
The incident was reported early Sunday, Sept. 20, at an apartment building in the 1100 block of Brickell Bay Drive in Miami.
According to investigators, the man told police that he matched with Flores on Tinder and took her out to dinner. The two later returned to his apartment, where they spent several hours drinking.
As the evening came to an end, Flores went to get dressed while the man remained in the living room. He later walked her to the elevator before she left the building.
The man told investigators that they kissed goodbye before Flores left in an Uber that he had arranged and paid for.
It was only after returning to his apartment that he noticed two watches were missing from the nightstand beside his bed, police said.
One of the missing watches was a Rolex that the victim told investigators was worth $37,000. He provided a purchase receipt to support the value of the watch.
The man attempted to contact Flores after discovering the watches were gone but found that she had blocked his number, according to the arrest report.
Investigators later showed the man a six-person photo lineup, and he identified Flores as the woman he had met through Tinder.
Police located Flores in Miami on Wednesday and brought her in for questioning. After being advised of her rights, she acknowledged meeting the man through Tinder, going to dinner with him and returning to his apartment.
Flores denied taking either watch.
During the interview, she told investigators that she believed she had been drugged and said she could not remember what happened after part of the evening. Police noted that they did not find a separate report in which Flores had previously reported being drugged.
Authorities subsequently arrested her on the grand theft charge.
Flores was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and was being held on a $7,500 bond. During a court appearance Thursday, a judge appointed a public defender and ordered Flores to stay away from the alleged victim, according to local reporting.
She has pleaded not guilty. The reported theft remains an allegation, and the charge has not been resolved in court.
The investigation centers on the two watches reported missing from the apartment. It was not immediately clear whether the watches had been recovered.
