SANTA MONICA, Calif. — A man was shot in the leg during an attempted robbery near the Santa Monica Pier Sunday night, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
Officers responded to the area near the Pier ramp at about 7:49 p.m. on Aug. 23 after receiving a report of a shooting. Police said the victim had been approached by a group of people and an altercation followed during an attempted robbery.
During the confrontation, one person fired a gun, striking the victim in the leg, according to the department’s preliminary investigation.
Santa Monica police officers provided medical aid at the scene before the victim was taken to a nearby hospital. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
The people involved in the incident fled the area, police said. No suspect information was immediately released, and there were no announced arrests as of the department’s initial investigation Sunday night.
Santa Monica police said the investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to identify those responsible.
