A lengthy Los Angeles Police Department pursuit ended in North Hollywood late Wednesday night when officers arrested a driver accused of assaulting an LAPD officer with a deadly weapon earlier this week.

The pursuit began around 9 p.m. near Studio City and continued for more than two hours through parts of Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley before returning to the San Fernando Valley.

Police said the driver was wanted in connection with an alleged assault on an officer during a domestic-violence response Sunday. Authorities have not publicly identified the weapon involved.

The suspect was driving a white Lexus sedan as officers followed him through several areas, including Hollywood, Boyle Heights, Alhambra and Pasadena. At one point, the vehicle traveled at very low speeds on the southbound 5 Freeway, with aerial units tracking the pursuit from above.

Video from the pursuit showed significant damage to the front of the Lexus, including what appeared to be a shredded or deflated front-right tire. Despite the damage, the driver continued through surface streets as multiple LAPD vehicles followed.

Police said the suspect eventually returned to North Hollywood. Shortly after 11 p.m., he stopped near Lankershim Boulevard and Oxnard Street and got out of the vehicle.

The driver then ran toward a nearby apartment complex, prompting officers to pursue him on foot. Police caught up with him a short time later and took him into custody.

CBS Los Angeles also reported that police described the suspect as a known gang member with multiple prior felony cases, including burglary and involuntary manslaughter. Officers had also warned during the pursuit that he was considered armed and dangerous.

The pursuit came to an end without the suspect remaining in the Lexus. ABC7 reported that officers arrested him after the brief foot pursuit at an apartment complex near Lankershim Boulevard and Oxnard Street.

The investigation into the alleged officer assault remains ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details about the weapon allegedly used or announced further information about potential charges in the case.
