A landscaping truck crashed into a bus bench and damaged three businesses in downtown North Miami on Friday afternoon, leaving two people hospitalized with minor injuries. The collision also damaged storefronts along a busy stretch of Northeast 125th Street, where pedestrians regularly walk and passengers wait for public transportation.
The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m., according to North Miami police. Video captured by a nearby business shows the truck striking the bus bench before continuing into the storefronts.
The impact left broken glass scattered across the sidewalk and forced crews to secure the damaged buildings. Although two people were taken to the hospital, police said their injuries were minor. Investigators are still working to determine what caused the truck to leave its path and hit the businesses.
Busy Bus Stop Narrowly Avoids a Worse Outcome
The location of the crash raised immediate concerns because the bus bench is a well-used waiting area in downtown North Miami. The surrounding businesses also bring customers and pedestrians to the sidewalk throughout the day.
Christian Paris, the property manager for the affected building, described the scene after the collision as a large cleanup operation involving shattered glass and restricted access.
“Everything was caution-taped off. It was a sea of glass,” Paris said.
He also recalled how close the incident came to injuring someone who had been preparing to catch a bus.
According to Paris, a client visiting a nearby medical center had planned to wait at the bus stop. Someone advised the person to remain inside, and only a few minutes later, the truck struck the bench.
“Thank God no one was hurt; it’s a relief. It could have ended way worse,” Paris said.
The account highlights how a brief decision to wait indoors may have prevented someone from being directly in the path of the truck.
Three Businesses Face Damage and Disruption
The collision affected three businesses, with damage serious enough to require building management to board up the storefronts. City crews spent hours clearing debris and cleaning the area, while caution tape kept people away from the damaged sections.
For businesses operating in a busy commercial district, damage to entrances and storefront windows can create immediate challenges. Owners and property managers may need to arrange repairs, secure exposed areas and determine when customers and employees can safely return.
The extent of the financial damage and how long the affected businesses will remain disrupted have not been confirmed.
The crash also created a safety concern beyond the buildings themselves. Broken glass, damaged structures and debris can pose risks to pedestrians and anyone attempting to access nearby shops.
What Caused the Crash?
North Miami police have not announced a cause for the collision. Investigators will need to establish what happened before the truck struck the bench and storefronts.
The available information does not establish whether the crash resulted from a driver error, a vehicle problem or another contributing factor. Those possibilities should not be treated as conclusions until authorities release further findings.
Video from nearby businesses may help investigators reconstruct the truck’s movements, while witness accounts and any available vehicle information could provide additional context.
For now, police have confirmed that two people were hospitalized with minor injuries and that the investigation remains ongoing.
A Reminder About Safety in Busy Commercial Areas
The incident underscores the potential consequences when a vehicle enters a sidewalk or strikes buildings in an area used by pedestrians and public transit passengers.
Bus stops are often positioned close to traffic, leaving people waiting with limited physical protection from moving vehicles. Storefronts and outdoor pedestrian spaces can also be vulnerable when a driver loses control.
Although the North Miami collision could have resulted in more serious injuries, the two reported hospitalizations were classified as minor. The circumstances described by the property manager also suggest that people were fortunate not to be standing at the bench when the truck hit it.
As cleanup and repairs continue, the main unanswered question remains what caused the landscaping truck to crash. Police have not provided a final determination, and further findings are needed to explain how the incident unfolded.
