An early-morning crash near Forney left a 39-year-old woman dead and an 8-month-old baby with suspected serious injuries, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at about 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, on US 80 near FM 460, where two vehicles were traveling eastbound.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 25-year-old driver in an Infiniti QX3 was traveling in the exit lane toward FM 460 when the vehicle made an unsafe lane change and struck a Chevrolet Silverado traveling in the right lane.
The impact sent the Silverado out of control. The pickup struck a concrete barrier and overturned before coming to rest on its roof. The Infiniti continued forward and also struck a concrete barrier.
The Silverado was driven by Juana Berenice Chavez Ojeda, 39, of Forney. She was taken to a nearby medical facility after the crash but later died from her injuries.
An 8-month-old baby who was also in the Silverado was transported to a hospital with suspected serious injuries. No further information about the infant’s condition was immediately available.
DPS identified the Infiniti driver as Jaylin Maliq Chestnut, 25, of Converse, Texas. Two passengers were also traveling in the Infiniti. None of the three people in that vehicle were reported injured.
The crash remains under investigation. DPS has not released additional details about what led to the lane change or provided further information about the infant’s condition.
