A 38-year-old Florida woman was arrested after investigators reviewed home surveillance footage that they said showed her engaging in sexual activity involving the family dog.

Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor was taken into custody in Charlotte County on Sept. 15 and faces a second-degree felony charge of sexual activity involving an animal. She was being held at the Charlotte County Jail on $35,000 bond.

The investigation began after detectives became aware of social media allegations concerning a woman and a pet dog. Investigators contacted the person who made the allegations and obtained sworn statements as well as digital evidence.

The evidence was traced to a surveillance system inside a home.

During an interview on Sept. 15, investigators said Nummerdor acknowledged that she was the woman shown in the footage and that the dog was the family pet. Detectives said the video showed her partially nude and the animal positioned in a way they considered consistent with sexual activity.

Nummerdor denied that a sexual act had taken place. Investigators said, however, that she was unable to provide a consistent explanation for what was captured on the surveillance recording. She eventually requested an attorney, and the interview ended.

Additional reporting on the case indicates that the surveillance cameras had been installed inside the residence while the household was trying to determine who was taking money from a coin container. The footage was later reviewed and provided to investigators as part of the case.

The dog involved was identified in the investigation as a family pet named Ranger.

Florida law classifies sexual contact with an animal as a felony under certain circumstances. The statute defines the offense in terms of sexual contact between a person and an animal for purposes including sexual gratification or abuse.

The sheriff’s office said the case was pursued after detectives reviewed the available evidence. Sheriff Bill Prummell publicly condemned the alleged conduct and said authorities would take action when such cases are brought to their attention.

Nummerdor remains accused at this stage, and the criminal charge will be addressed through the court process. The arrest and allegations do not by themselves establish a final finding of guilt.

The case remains an active matter in Charlotte County.
