A domestic disturbance call in southern Arizona has led to a double-murder case after authorities discovered a pregnant woman dead inside her home and arrested her husband. Investigators allege that the woman suffered multiple injuries, including a serious chest wound, and may have been run over inside the garage.

Joseph Jay Clark, 49, is facing two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his 39-year-old wife, Noelle Clark, and their unborn child. The case has raised serious questions about what happened inside the family’s home in Vail, a community southeast of Tucson.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 17000 block of South Ridgerunner Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. on October 9 following a report of a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they encountered Joseph Clark leaving the property and detained him without incident.

A search of the home led deputies to Noelle Clark, who was found dead. Initial information released by authorities described an apparent gunshot wound, but details outlined in a subsequent criminal complaint described a different set of injuries.

According to the complaint, Noelle was found beneath a blanket in the garage. Investigators reportedly observed significant head trauma and a deep wound to her chest consistent with a stabbing. The report also noted visible signs of pregnancy.

Additional details emerged as investigators examined the scene. Noelle reportedly had bloody tire marks on her arm, raising concerns that she may have been run over. Detectives also recovered a bloodied knife from a bedroom used by the couple’s children.

Investigators further alleged that evidence inside the home suggested Clark may have considered disposing of his wife’s remains. The available information does not establish what actions, if any, he may have taken toward that end.

Husband Allegedly Blamed Years of Torture

During his detention, Clark allegedly told deputies that his wife had subjected him to electric shocks over a period of several years. He reportedly claimed that the alleged abuse had caused him to lash out.

Authorities, however, reportedly found no visible injuries or other signs supporting his claims of torture. The allegations have not been independently established, and the circumstances surrounding the couple’s relationship remain part of the broader case.

Investigators have not publicly explained the difference between the sheriff’s office’s initial description of a possible gunshot wound and the injuries later detailed in the criminal complaint. Further clarification could help establish the sequence of events and the nature of the injuries that led to Noelle’s death.

    Two Young Children Found Unharmed

Amid the investigation, authorities confirmed that the couple’s two children, ages 3 and 4, were found unharmed inside the residence. Their presence adds another troubling dimension to a case involving the death of a pregnant woman inside her own home.

The children were placed in the custody of the Arizona Department of Child Safety while authorities addressed their immediate care and safety.

Domestic violence cases can leave children facing sudden separation, uncertainty and emotional distress, even when they are not physically injured. In situations involving suspected violence within a household, child welfare officials may need to assess immediate safety concerns and determine appropriate care arrangements.

    Court Proceedings Underway

Clark appeared in court for his initial hearing on October 10. A judge ordered him held on a $1 million bond, and he is scheduled to return to court on October 20.

The investigation remains focused on the circumstances of Noelle Clark’s death, the injuries described in the criminal complaint and the evidence recovered from the home.

The two second-degree murder charges concern the deaths of Noelle and her unborn child. The allegations against Clark have not yet been proven in court, and the criminal proceedings will determine how the evidence is evaluated.

For now, the case leaves investigators with several important questions to resolve, including the precise sequence of events inside the home and the discrepancy between the initial report and the later description of Noelle’s injuries.
