Two women have died and several other people were injured after a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles and pedestrians in the Bronx on Friday afternoon, October 9.

According to the New York City Police Department, an 81-year-old man was driving a white Mercedes-Benz westbound on Allerton Avenue when he failed to stop as he approached traffic ahead. The vehicle struck two cars from behind, setting off a series of collisions that also involved pedestrians crossing the street.
Four women, reportedly between their 50s and 60s, were struck during the incident. Two later died from their injuries, while another pedestrian remained in critical condition. The fourth woman suffered a leg injury and was receiving medical treatment.
Nine People Taken to Jacobi Hospital
Emergency responders transported nine people to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi following the crash. The injured included pedestrians and people who had been inside the vehicles involved in the collision.
