A 13-year-old boy was critically injured Friday afternoon after a 9-year-old boy fired a gun inside a home in Chicago’s Fuller Park neighborhood, according to Chicago police.
The shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Wells Street. Police said the two boys were inside the residence when the 9-year-old fired a single shot, striking the 13-year-old in the shoulder.
The injured boy was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was reported to be in critical condition.
Officers recovered a handgun at the residence following the shooting. Investigators have not released information explaining what led to the gun being fired or how the younger child obtained the firearm.
Police have not announced additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine what happened inside the home.
No other injuries have been publicly reported in connection with the shooting.
