A Waco woman told police she stabbed her friend’s disabled son because she believed she was defending herself during a confrontation, but the victim’s mother gave officers a different account of what happened, according to an arrest affidavit.
The incident happened Sept. 16 in the 2000 block of 21st Street, where a Waco police officer was called shortly after 7:30 p.m. The woman, identified as Charlotte McMillon, was still inside her vehicle when the officer arrived.
McMillon told police she had acted in self-defense. She said she had been involved in an argument with the man earlier that day at a laundromat before he returned to the Cove Apartments.
According to the affidavit, the dispute continued after the victim’s mother asked her son to help unload clothes from a vehicle. Police said the man became upset and threw an iPad at the windshield of McMillon’s vehicle.
McMillon told investigators that she got out of the vehicle to check the windshield. She said the man then came toward her, causing her to take a knife from underneath the driver’s seat.
She claimed he chased her around the vehicle and eventually pinned her against it. McMillon told officers she stabbed him twice because she was afraid for her safety. She then left the area in her vehicle and contacted police.
The victim’s mother described the confrontation differently.
She told officers that McMillon got out of the vehicle carrying the knife after her son threw the iPad. According to her account, McMillon approached her son and stabbed him twice before he pushed her away.
Investigators then reviewed surveillance video from the area. The affidavit states that the footage showed the victim throwing the iPad, followed by McMillon getting out of the vehicle with a knife and approaching him before the stabbing occurred.
The conflicting accounts became a key part of the police investigation, with the surveillance footage providing investigators with additional information about the sequence of events.
McMillon was arrested in connection with the incident and charged with injury to a disabled individual with intentional serious bodily injury.
The affidavit describes allegations made during the investigation, and the charge is not a finding of guilt. The case will proceed through the court system, where additional evidence and arguments can be presented.
