A Waco man has been arrested after police responded to a reported domestic disturbance and found a woman with injuries that she said resulted from an alleged assault, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police were called Sept. 17 to the 500 block of North 26th Street after receiving a report that a man was assaulting his wife. The man was later identified as Michael Gibson.
When officers arrived, they spoke with Gibson, who said his wife had thrown a thermos that struck him in the head and caused him to bleed. The woman gave officers a different account of what had happened.
According to the affidavit, the couple had visited a clinic earlier that day to receive medication before stopping at a food truck. The woman told police Gibson became upset because he believed she was flirting with other men there.
The situation allegedly escalated after they returned to her car. The woman told officers Gibson used both hands to strangle her. She estimated that the incident lasted about two minutes and said she had difficulty breathing during and after the alleged assault.
She also reported dizziness, nausea, disorientation, a headache and pain while swallowing and speaking. Officers documented deep bruising on the right side of her neck, according to the affidavit.
The woman also told police that Gibson had allegedly strangled her several days earlier and that she had been taken by ambulance to Providence Hospital following that incident.
The couple later drove home together, according to the affidavit. Another confrontation reportedly followed inside the bedroom. The woman told police she threw the thermos across the bed, striking Gibson in the forehead. She said that when she approached him after seeing his head bleeding, Gibson punched her in the left eye.
Officers reported redness and swelling around the woman’s left eye and cheekbone area.
Gibson was arrested on a charge of assault of a family or household member by impeding breath or circulation. He was later released from the McLennan County Jail on bond.
The allegations described in the affidavit are part of the arrest case and do not by themselves establish guilt. Any further court proceedings or additional charges would depend on subsequent action in the case.
