A 44-year-old Victorville man died after he was struck by a Mercedes-Benz early Sunday morning on Silica Drive, according to authorities.

Jaime Moroyoqui was in the roadway near First Avenue at about 4:03 a.m. on Sept. 6 when he was hit by a black Mercedes-Benz C-Class traveling east on Silica Drive. The collision occurred west of First Avenue, according to information released during the investigation.

Moroyoqui suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He later died from his injuries.

The driver stopped after the crash and remained at the scene, where the driver cooperated with investigators. Authorities have not indicated that drugs or alcohol were suspected as a factor in the collision. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

The crash prompted authorities to close a section of Silica Drive between First and Second avenues while deputies investigated the scene.

Moroyoqui’s death was confirmed after the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office identified him as the Victorville resident involved in the fatal collision.

Investigators are continuing to work to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the Victorville Station at (760) 241-2911 or the sheriff’s dispatch line at (760) 956-5001.

No further details about the investigation or any potential citations or charges had been publicly announced as of the latest available reports.
