A 31-year-old Victorville man was arrested after deputies found a woman restrained and suffering from multiple visible injuries inside a home Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a reported assault at a residence in the 15000 block of Enfield Drive at about 4:25 p.m. on Sept. 23.
When deputies arrived, they found an adult woman inside the home who had been restrained and had visible injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released additional information about the extent of her injuries or her current condition.
Investigators identified the suspect as Semaj Raines, 31, of Victorville. Deputies said Raines had left the residence before they arrived and fled with a female juvenile.
A search for Raines continued into the evening. With assistance from aerial support, deputies located his vehicle in Hesperia and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Seventh Avenue and Eucalyptus Street shortly after 6:30 p.m.
The juvenile was found in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. Deputies said the girl was not secured in a child safety seat.
Raines was taken into custody and booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. The charges listed in connection with the arrest include attempted murder, torture, false imprisonment, corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant, and unlawful possession or use of tear gas. Jail records also list a child-abuse-related charge involving the possibility of great bodily injury or death.
His bail was reported at $1 million pending an initial court appearance. The relationship between Raines, the injured woman and the juvenile has not been publicly clarified.
Investigators have not released a possible motive or identified the woman involved. Additional details about the circumstances leading up to the incident also remain unavailable as the investigation continues.
