RIVESVILLE, W.Va. — Two Rivesville residents were arrested after a deputy responding to a well-being check found several malnourished animals and a dead dog inside an apartment, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
Charles Lee Workman, 44, and Brittany Nicole Ice, 32, both of Rivesville, were arrested and charged with cruelty to animals.
The investigation began Aug. 10 when a Marion County deputy was dispatched to a Rivesville residence at about 11 p.m. for a well-being check. Witnesses had reported a strong odor coming from the apartment where Workman and Ice lived.
During the initial check, the deputy found a brown Pitbull that appeared to be malnourished and was inside a cage.
At about 12:49 a.m., the deputy obtained a search warrant and returned to the apartment. Authorities then found a dead German Shepherd inside a cage and a malnourished cat, according to the sheriff’s department.
The Pitbull was also found outside the apartment after escaping from its cage.
The deputy reported finding empty food and water bowls inside the residence, along with dog and cat feces on floors throughout the apartment.
Workman and Ice were being held at the North Central Regional Jail on $6,000 bonds, according to the latest report.
The charges are allegations, and the case will proceed through the legal system.
