A Sunday night in West Baltimore turned deadly when gunfire erupted at a gas station, leaving two people dead and three others injured. Investigators believe multiple shooters may have been involved, but the motive remains unclear as police work to identify those responsible.
The shooting was reported around 10:30 p.m. at a BP gas station in the 2800 block of Edmondson Avenue. Officers arriving at the scene found four people suffering from gunshot wounds, including a woman and three men. A fifth victim, also a man, later arrived at a hospital with gunshot injuries.
Police Commissioner Richard Worley confirmed that a woman and one of the male victims died. The other three victims were expected to survive.
As detectives began piecing together what happened, authorities said they were still trying to determine why the shooting occurred and who was responsible.
Investigators believe multiple shooters were involved
According to Worley, early information suggested that two or three people may have opened fire. Investigators also believe high-powered rifles were used during the attack.
No suspects were in custody as of Sunday night.
Police are working to establish the sequence of events and determine whether the surviving victims can provide information that might help identify the shooters.
Worley said investigators may also need to rely heavily on surveillance footage to reconstruct the incident and establish what happened before the gunfire began.
The investigation faces several unanswered questions, including whether the victims were specifically targeted or caught in a broader act of violence. Authorities have not announced a confirmed motive.
For investigators, identifying the people responsible and establishing their roles in the shooting will be key steps toward building a criminal case.
Another violent incident adds to Baltimore’s concerns
The deadly gas station shooting comes amid a troubling series of mass shootings reported across Baltimore in recent weeks.
Police have responded to at least four mass shootings over the past month, including incidents in West Baltimore that left young victims dead.
Earlier in October, a shooting at a West Baltimore park killed a 12-year-old girl. Another shooting in the Winchester neighborhood claimed the lives of an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old and left other people injured.
The repeated incidents have intensified concerns about gun violence, particularly when shootings put multiple people at risk in public spaces.
Worley expressed frustration over the recurring violence, saying people who fire weapons without properly controlling them can endanger numerous lives.
He said police would continue working to solve the gas station shooting and hold those responsible for the deaths accountable.
The latest case also highlights the challenges investigators face when several people are injured, witnesses may have limited information and surveillance footage becomes an important part of reconstructing events.
Police ask the public for information
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the Edmondson Avenue shooting or has information about the suspects to come forward.
Anyone with information can contact Baltimore police at 410-396-2466 or call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
Tips may help detectives establish what led to the shooting, identify those involved and determine how the attack unfolded.
Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the incident.
Three people injured in a separate Northwest Baltimore shooting
Earlier Sunday evening, another shooting injured three people at a liquor store in Northwest Baltimore, adding to a night of violence across the city.
Police said officers responded at approximately 8:30 p.m. to Pepper Liquor Store in the 5400 block of Reisterstown Road.
At the scene, officers found two women, ages 26 and 22, suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital in stable condition.
A 27-year-old man later arrived at a hospital with gunshot wounds that were considered non-life-threatening.
Police have not established whether the liquor store shooting was connected to the deadly incident at the BP gas station. The two shootings occurred at separate locations and roughly two hours apart, and authorities have not announced a link between them.
Anyone with information about the liquor store shooting is also asked to contact Baltimore police at 410-396-2466 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
Questions remain as investigations continue
The two shootings left five people injured in separate incidents, while the gas station attack claimed two lives.
Investigators still need to determine what prompted the violence, identify the people responsible and establish whether any additional individuals were involved.
For Baltimore residents, the incidents add to concerns about shootings occurring in everyday public places, where workers, customers and passersby can suddenly find themselves in danger.
Police have urged anyone with relevant information to cooperate with investigators as they work to bring the cases to a resolution.
