A quiet Thursday morning in Georges Township turned tragic when a 17-year-old motorcyclist lost his life in a collision with a box truck, according to authorities.

The victim has been identified as Charles Plum of Lake Lynn. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death in a statement released following the crash.

    How the Crash Happened

Pennsylvania State Police say the accident unfolded around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Morgantown Road and Valley School Road. Plum was riding his Yamaha Virago 750 southbound on Morgantown Road when the box truck driver, who was turning left onto Morgantown Road from Valley School Road, crossed his path.

Investigators noted that Plum had been traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the collision. The impact left him with severe injuries, and he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors were unable to save him.

Troopers also confirmed that Plum was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash — a detail that continues to raise concerns among road safety advocates who point to helmet use as one of the most effective ways to reduce fatal outcomes in motorcycle accidents.

The driver of the box truck, a 51-year-old man, walked away from the crash without injury.

    Investigation Underway

Pennsylvania State Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision. As of now, no additional details have been released about potential charges or contributing factors, and authorities have not indicated when the investigation is expected to conclude.

    A Community Mourns

In its statement, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office asked the public to keep Plum’s family and friends in their thoughts as they come to terms with the loss.

Losing a teenager in a roadway accident is never just a statistic — it’s a reminder of how quickly life can change on a routine morning drive. Neighbors in Georges Township and the wider Fayette County community are likely to feel the impact of this loss in the days ahead.

    What We Don’t Know Yet

Several questions remain open as of this report:

    • Whether the box truck driver will face any citations or charges
    • What exact speed Plum was traveling at the time of the crash
    • Whether road conditions or visibility played any role at the intersection

Waverly Tigers Cadence will continue to follow this story and update this article as Pennsylvania State Police release further findings.
