An autopsy has determined that 25-year-old Shanteria “KT” Mosley was shot in the head before her remains were discovered at a Smyrna apartment complex, police said Tuesday.
Mosley’s death is being investigated at Park Valley Apartments on Valley Parkway, where police first responded after her family reported that her phone and vehicle had been found there. Investigators believe she was killed sometime between 10 a.m. and noon on Sept. 23.
Police have not said whether the gunshot wound itself caused Mosley’s death or exactly when the shooting occurred in relation to the dismemberment of her body. Investigators also have not publicly identified a motive.
The case began unfolding Wednesday evening after Mosley’s family contacted police. An officer initially searched the apartment complex for roughly 30 minutes, including checking around the property and speaking with people, but no body was found at that time.
Police returned later after witnesses reported seeing 18-year-old Kingston Bradley carrying a container from an apartment. Bradley was subsequently arrested and initially charged with concealing the death of another person.
The investigation took another turn when detectives searching a vehicle two days later discovered garbage bags in the trunk. One bag appeared to have been tightly wrapped around the outline of a body part. Investigators contacted the Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office, which examined the bags and confirmed that they contained human remains.
Police later identified the victim as Mosley, who was known as “KT” to people close to her. Investigators have said they believe all of her remains have been located.
Bradley now faces a malice murder charge in addition to the concealment charge. He remains in the Cobb County jail while the investigation continues. His attorney, Paul Camarillo, said Tuesday that Bradley is entitled to due process and urged people not to draw conclusions from incomplete information circulating online.
Investigators are still working to establish the relationship between Mosley and Bradley and determine what led Mosley to the apartment complex. Police have also been reviewing evidence collected from the apartment and other locations connected to the investigation.
The case has drawn additional attention because police did not receive reports of screaming, unusual noises or suspicious activity during the time investigators believe Mosley was killed. Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen or heard something around the complex that morning to contact detectives.
Anyone with information can contact lead detective N. Wachowiak at 678-631-5264. Smyrna police said people providing information may remain anonymous.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced a possible motive
