A traffic stop in North Vernon on Sunday led to the arrest of a 32-year-old local man on multiple preliminary drug and other charges, according to police.

The North Vernon Police Department said Officer Jessiah Watts stopped a vehicle in the 00 block of N. State Street on Aug. 30. During the stop, officers conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle, which was being driven by Zachary Ryan Clark, 32, of North Vernon.

Police said the search turned up multiple items considered evidence in the investigation. Clark was subsequently arrested and taken to the Jennings County Jail for booking.

According to jail records, Clark was booked Aug. 30 and faces the following preliminary charges:

    • Dealing in methamphetamine — Level 5 felony
    • Possession of methamphetamine — Level 3 felony
    • Obstruction of justice — Level 6 felony
    • Dealing in marijuana — Class A misdemeanor
    • Possession of marijuana — Class B misdemeanor
    • Possession of paraphernalia — Class C misdemeanor
    • Driving while suspended — Class A infraction

Clark is being held on a $20,055 bond. Authorities also noted that he had previously been released on his own recognizance while facing a separate pending charge.

The charges filed in the case are preliminary, and the allegations have not been proven in court. Further court proceedings will determine how the case moves forward.
