CENTRAL POINT, Ore. — Authorities are investigating after a 2-year-old child who was reported missing early Wednesday was later found dead, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The child was reported missing around 4:30 a.m. and was last seen in the 9900 block of Blackwell Road, officials said.
Deputies with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with Oregon State Police responded and began searching the area. The child was located at about 5:41 a.m., authorities said.
Officials have not released further information about what led to the child’s death. The circumstances surrounding the case remain under investigation.
Detectives from the sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and the Major Assault and Death Investigation Unit, known as MADIU, are handling the investigation.
Authorities have not provided additional details about the child or indicated whether anyone has been arrested or identified as a suspect.
