Marietta police located the family of a young boy who was found wandering alone along Franklin Gateway on Monday evening, ending a brief search for his relatives.

The boy was found around 5:45 p.m. near Franklin Gateway and Twin Brooks Drive, according to police. Investigators estimated that he was between 2 and 3 years old.

When officers found him, the child was not able or willing to communicate with first responders, making it difficult for authorities to immediately determine who he was or where he lived. Police initially asked anyone who recognized the child or knew his family to contact 911.

Additional information released during the search described the boy as having Black, spiky hair and wearing a black shirt with small white stars and blue rocket ships.

The situation was resolved later Monday evening. Marietta police announced at about 7:40 p.m. that the boy’s family had been located.

Police have not publicly released additional details about how the child came to be alone along Franklin Gateway or what led to the family being located.

The case remains a reminder of how quickly a young child can become separated from caregivers and how community alerts can help authorities identify a child when the child is unable to provide information.
