A search for a possible murder suspect stretched into Friday night after a routine traffic stop in northwest Miami-Dade escalated into a police manhunt.
The incident began just before 6 p.m. near Northwest 88th Street and 12th Avenue, when an officer attempted to pull over a car carrying four people. Instead of stopping, the driver sped off.
Three of the occupants eventually jumped out and tried to run on foot, but officers managed to catch them nearby. The fourth person got away and remains at large.
Police say the vehicle was tied to an earlier reported case in the area, and investigators spent close to four hours combing the neighborhood for the missing suspect. A police helicopter circled overhead for a couple of hours as officers searched nearby homes and streets.
The search brought a heavy police presence to the area, with tactical units and K-9 teams assisting officers on the ground. Several residents said they were temporarily unable to get in or out of their homes while the operation was underway.
Police have since confirmed that the three people taken into custody are connected to an ongoing homicide investigation. Officers eventually left the intersection, though it wasn’t immediately clear whether the search for the fourth suspect was still active.
Investigators have not released the identity of the outstanding suspect, and the full circumstances tied to the homicide case remain under investigation.
This is a developing story. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
