A 2-month-old kitten with a history of serious medical problems is back with his foster family after being taken from a central Minnesota animal shelter earlier this week.
Marin was at the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud when a visitor removed him from his kennel Wednesday afternoon and placed him inside a bag before leaving the shelter.
Shelter staff realized shortly afterward that Marin was missing and began working to locate him.
The situation came to a reassuring end Thursday when the person who took the kitten contacted the shelter and returned him. According to the shelter, Marin was left outside in a box, and the person called to explain what had happened and apologize.
Staff said Marin was safely returned and appeared to be healthy. He has since been reunited with his foster parent.
The kitten’s return is especially important because Marin still requires specialized care.
Marin was found on a road last month suffering from a severe eye infection. During his treatment, the humane society developed a special serum using a blood donation from a dog to help treat his condition.
His health has improved significantly since then, but the shelter says he is not yet ready to return to its adoption program. Staff want to make sure he receives the continued care he needs as he completes his recovery.
