A 14-year-old boy was playing video games in his bedroom when a woman allegedly entered carrying a baseball bat and a knife before stabbing him several times, according to court documents.

The incident happened Sept. 2 at a home in the 400 block of Nordstrom Street in El Paso’s Upper Valley. Police later identified the woman as 44-year-old Janie King, who was arrested following an hourslong standoff at the residence.

King was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $100,000. Police released her mugshot Sept. 9.

According to the arrest affidavit, the teenager told investigators he was sitting in his gaming chair when King entered his bedroom holding a red-and-black bat in one hand and a small silver knife with a blue handle in the other.

The boy said he asked King to put the weapons down. Instead, she allegedly began attacking him with the knife.

During the struggle, the teenager tried to take the knife away and suffered a cut to the palm of his right hand. He eventually managed to get out of the room and ran downstairs to a sibling’s bedroom, where the door was locked.

The teenager suffered multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his neck, right arm and torso. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Police have not publicly provided a more recent update on his condition.

A sibling who called 911 told investigators that they heard banging, running and screaming coming from upstairs. The sibling then saw the teenager near the top of the stairs covered in blood.

The victim was reportedly saying that King was trying to kill him, according to the affidavit.

The sibling said King followed the teenager down the stairs while still holding a knife. After helping the injured boy into a bedroom, the sibling used towels to put pressure on his wounds while waiting for emergency responders.

Police responding to the home were also told that King had remained inside the residence and had barricaded herself in the garage.

The situation turned into a standoff that lasted several hours. SWAT officers and members of the El Paso Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team responded as officers attempted to get King to leave the home.

Police eventually used a drill to open the garage door and entered the residence, where King was taken into custody.

Three other juveniles were reportedly inside the home when officers arrived, but police said they were not injured and were safely removed from the residence.

The arrest came several days before police publicly identified King on Sept. 9. Investigators with the El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Division are handling the case.

It remains unclear from publicly available information how King and the teenager are related.

King remains in custody while the case proceeds. The allegations against her have not been proven in court.
