A 24-year-old Danielson man died after a motorcycle crash Saturday night in Putnam, while a 24-year-old woman who was riding with him remained hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.
The crash happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Grove Street and Tatem Street. Putnam police received multiple 911 calls reporting the crash.
When emergency crews arrived, both people were lying in the roadway with serious injuries. Witnesses had already begun providing lifesaving assistance, including CPR, before police and other first responders reached the scene.
The male rider was taken to Day Kimball Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police identified him Monday as Jacob C. Woodmancy of Danielson.
The female passenger was initially listed in critical but stable condition. She was later transported by LifeStar to Hartford Hospital for additional treatment. Her condition was subsequently reported as serious but stable.
Police outline preliminary findings
Investigators said the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Grove Street when the driver lost control. The motorcycle crossed the center line before crashing along the opposite shoulder.
Both Woodmancy and the passenger were thrown from the motorcycle during the crash, according to police.
The investigation remains ongoing. Putnam police detectives and the Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
