A firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening injury and a cat was resuscitated after a house fire spread to a neighboring home Sunday evening in Dallas, officials said.

Dallas Fire-Rescue crews were dispatched to a home at 6931 Echo Bluff Drive shortly after 6:25 p.m. Sunday after a 911 call reported a fire, according to NBC 5 and Dallas Fire-Rescue information cited in local reports.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames in the rear of the one-story home. Crews deployed hand lines and began an offensive attack, but the fire extended to the neighboring house at 6933 Echo Bluff Drive, prompting a second-alarm response.

During the operation, Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel were able to resuscitate a cat that had been inside the original home.

One firefighter was taken to a hospital after suffering a non-life-threatening injury to an upper extremity while working at the scene. No residents of either home were reported injured.

Firefighters had the blaze under control at about 7:15 p.m., but crews remained at the scene afterward to check for and extinguish remaining hot spots and make sure the fire had not spread further.

The home where the fire started sustained severe damage. The neighboring home also suffered damage, including to its roof and attic on the affected side, according to updated report.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
