Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen is now facing formal misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged impaired-driving incident in downtown Indianapolis late last month.
Allen has been charged with operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration of .15 or more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The charges follow an early-morning traffic investigation on Aug. 30 in the 100 block of South Meridian Street, near West Maryland Street.
According to police, officers began investigating after noticing a vehicle parked in a no-parking zone shortly after 1 a.m. When they approached the driver, identified as Allen, officers reported observing signs of intoxication. The investigation eventually led to his arrest.
Allen was later released after a $500 cash bond was paid to the court.
The case has now moved forward in the Marion County court system. Allen’s initial hearing that had been scheduled for Sept. 16 was canceled, and an attorney conference is now listed for Oct. 26 at 8:30 a.m.
An arrest or criminal charge does not establish guilt, and the case remains pending.
Allen Had Just Joined the Colts
The legal case comes only weeks after Allen became one of Indianapolis’ biggest offseason additions.
The Colts signed the veteran receiver on Aug. 19, bringing in a six-time Pro Bowler with 1,055 career receptions, 12,051 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns. The 34-year-old entered Indianapolis after spending the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Allen also has an established connection with Colts head coach Shane Steichen. The two previously worked together with the Chargers from 2014 through 2020, giving Allen familiarity with Indianapolis’ offensive system.
Before the arrest, Allen had already made his preseason debut for Indianapolis. He caught one pass for 24 yards against the Detroit Lions on Aug. 29, just hours before the incident.
Despite the pending case, Allen remained on Indianapolis’ initial 53-man roster when the team finalized its roster on Aug. 30.
Colts Previously Acknowledged the Incident
After the arrest became public, the Colts said they were aware of what had happened and were gathering additional information before making further comments.
The organization has not announced a change to Allen’s roster status in its official transaction records. As of the latest roster information, Allen remains listed as an Indianapolis wide receiver.
The legal process will now continue with the attorney conference scheduled for Oct. 26. Further decisions involving the case will depend on how the court proceedings develop.
For Allen, the situation comes at an important point in his first season with Indianapolis. The veteran receiver joined the Colts with a long NFL résumé and was expected to provide experience to an offense preparing for the 2026 season. His legal case now adds an off-field issue to the beginning of his tenure in Indianapolis.
