Three people were injured Saturday afternoon after a BMW crashed through the front of North Park Produce in Poway, sending the vehicle into an area near the store’s cash registers.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. at the store on Poway Road. At least one of the injured people was a store employee.
The vehicle went through the store’s front window, according to emergency responders. The impact prompted officials to evacuate the business while the building was checked for possible structural damage.
An engineer was called to assess the condition of the building following the crash. Authorities have not released details about the extent of the damage or whether the store will be able to reopen immediately.
The driver remained at the scene after the collision.
What caused the BMW to leave the roadway and strike the store has not been determined. Authorities had not publicly identified the driver or provided additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
