CHARLESTOWN, Ind. — Authorities are searching for 16-year-old Anna Knowles after a statewide Silver Alert was issued for the Charlestown teenager.
Knowles was last seen around 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in Charlestown, according to police. Authorities said they believe she may be in extreme danger and could need medical assistance.
Knowles is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 159 pounds. She has blonde hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing a white hoodie with black pants.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen Knowles or has information about where she may be to contact the Charlestown Police Department at 812-246-6995 or call 911.
The Silver Alert comes as authorities continue efforts to locate the teenager. Charlestown is located about 102 miles south of downtown Indianapolis.
Why a Silver Alert was issued
Indiana’s Silver Alert system is used to help locate people who are missing and believed to be endangered. The state’s alert standards were expanded in recent years to include children as well as adults.
A Silver Alert is different from an Amber Alert. Amber Alerts are generally issued for children believed to have been abducted when authorities have information indicating that an abduction has occurred and other required criteria are met.
For Knowles, authorities issued a Silver Alert because of concerns about her safety and possible need for medical assistance.
