A man was shot and injured by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies Monday morning in Lancaster after authorities said he was armed with a handgun and holding his ex-wife in a headlock during a domestic violence incident.
Deputies were called to the 44000 block of 15th Street West at about 9:46 a.m. after receiving a report that an armed man was trying to force his ex-wife into a vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they found the man in front of the location with a handgun while restraining the woman, according to authorities.
Investigators said the situation escalated when the man allegedly pointed the gun at deputies and fired. Deputies returned fire, striking the man.
The woman and the deputies were not injured.
Deputies provided emergency medical treatment to the wounded man before Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics took him to a local hospital. He was later listed in stable condition.
A handgun was recovered at the scene and taken as evidence.
A witness who spoke said she saw the man walking between vehicles with a gun and heard deputies repeatedly order him to put the weapon down before she heard someone announce that shots had been fired.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details about the identities of the man or woman involved.
