HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. — An early-morning crash on U.S. 31 in Hamilton County left two people injured Tuesday and prompted an extended closure of the southbound lanes while investigators worked at the scene.
The crash occurred around 3 a.m. Sept. 8 in the 26600 block of southbound U.S. 31.
Two people were hurt. One sustained serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment. A second person suffered injuries described as minor.
Authorities closed southbound U.S. 31 at 276th Street as a crash investigation team examined the scene. The closure was expected to remain in place for an extended period, affecting motorists traveling through the area during the morning.
Drivers were urged to stay away from the affected stretch of highway and use alternate routes while emergency personnel and investigators remained on scene.
Authorities also asked motorists approaching the area to reduce their speed, remain alert and give first responders enough room to work safely.
The circumstances leading up to the crash have not yet been released. The identities of those involved and additional information about the seriously injured person’s condition were also not immediately available.
The investigation remains ongoing.
