A crash involving an unmarked Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office vehicle and two civilian cars left one person dead Wednesday night in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.
The collision happened at about 7:42 p.m. near Northwest 51st Terrace and Northwest 33rd Avenue in the Brownsville area. The crash brought a significant emergency and law enforcement response to the neighborhood as crews worked at the scene.
One of the civilian drivers was taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. The person later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the other civilian vehicle was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation. No further information about that person’s condition was immediately available.
The sheriff’s deputy involved in the collision was treated at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and was not reported to have been taken to the hospital.
Fire rescue crews also had to remove at least one person from a vehicle following the crash. Images from the scene showed one of the vehicles had overturned.
The circumstances leading up to the collision have not been released. Authorities have not said which vehicle was responsible for the crash or provided details about the sequence of events.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. Additional details, including what may have led to the collision, are expected as the investigation develops.
