A 25-year-old Franklin man died after suffering a gunshot wound at Eagle Sports Range in Cudahy on Friday, Aug. 28, according to police and information released following the incident.
The shooting happened at the range on East Layton Avenue. Police said the man suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to the chest and was taken by Cudahy paramedics to Froedtert Hospital for treatment. He later died from his injuries.
A witness who spoke with FOX6 at the scene said the man appeared to have accidentally shot himself. Police, however, have not publicly released a detailed account of how the shooting occurred, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Employees at Eagle Sports Range called 911 and provided assistance to the injured man while waiting for emergency crews to arrive, according to a statement from the range. He was then transported to a nearby hospital.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office was also notified after the man was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not announced any arrests or citations in connection with the incident.
Eagle Sports Range has said it will not provide additional comments while the investigation is underway and has directed questions about the incident to the Cudahy Police Department. The range expressed condolences to the man’s family, friends and community.
The investigation remains active, and additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting could be released by police as authorities complete their review.
