The FBI is offering up to $25,000 for information leading to the location and apprehension of Jesus Acosta, who police say is wanted in connection with two deadly shootings in New York City.
A citywide search is underway for 31-year-old Jesus Acosta, whom the NYPD has linked to fatal shootings at a Bronx deli and a Brooklyn restaurant just days apart.
Investigators say Acosta is considered armed and dangerous. Police released surveillance images and are asking the public to help locate him.
The FBI has now offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Acosta’s location and apprehension. The United Bodegas of America has also increased its reward to $10,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Bronx Deli Shooting Leaves 33-Year-Old Man Dead
The first of the two fatal shootings occurred shortly after midnight Tuesday at 149 Grill & Deli near East 149th Street and Walton Avenue in the Bronx.
According to police, a gunman entered the deli and opened fire on a 33-year-old customer, striking him in the chest. The victim was taken to Lincoln Hospital but later died from his injuries.
Surveillance footage released in connection with the investigation shows the suspect entering the store before the shooting. Police say the gunman then went behind the counter, took money from the register and fled.
The victim was later identified by family members as Tavon Shuler, who was known to friends as “Pluccy.” A memorial with candles, photographs and messages has formed outside the deli.
Shuler’s father, Douglas Shuler, remembered his son as someone who was willing to help others.
The shooting also left workers inside the deli scrambling for safety as the gunfire erupted.
Brooklyn Restaurant Shooting Came Two Days Earlier
Police say Acosta is also wanted in connection with a deadly shooting Sunday at America’s Best Wings and Pizza in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn.
Investigators said a 44-year-old man, identified as M.D. Yousef, was shot in the head and killed. Another man, a 39-year-old employee, was shot in the leg and survived.
According to investigators, the gunman fled after taking money from the restaurant.
Yousef’s family and coworkers have described him as a devoted father who supported relatives after moving to the United States from Bangladesh. His death has left his coworkers and loved ones calling for Acosta’s arrest.
Police Say Acosta Was Recently Released on Parole
The NYPD said Acosta was released on parole earlier this year after serving an approximately 11-year prison sentence. State records cited by News 12 indicate the sentence was connected to a previous attempted-murder case.
Police have described Acosta as approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. Investigators say he has distinctive tattoos, including “Bronx” on one hand and “Bobby” on his left forearm.
There had been no arrest reported as of the latest available update.
Rewards Increase as Search Continues
The FBI’s $25,000 reward is now being offered alongside the $10,000 reward from the United Bodegas of America.
The increased rewards come as investigators continue searching for Acosta and ask anyone who may know his whereabouts to contact authorities.
The NYPD is urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Spanish-language tips can be made at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
Tips can also be submitted through the NYPD Crime Stoppers website or by direct message to @NYPDTips on X. Police say tipsters can remain confidential.
The investigation remains active, and authorities continue to search for Acosta in connection with the two shootings.
