Maryland is heading into a warmer and more humid stretch after several days of comfortable weather, with the biggest change expected Thursday as showers and thunderstorms become more likely across the region.
Wednesday should remain mostly dry for much of the day. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid to upper 80s, while increasing moisture will make the afternoon and evening feel noticeably more humid.
The National Weather Service’s latest Baltimore forecast calls for mostly sunny conditions Wednesday with a high around 86 degrees. The chance for showers and thunderstorms increases Wednesday night, particularly later in the evening.
Thursday brings the best chance for storms
Thursday currently appears to be the wettest day of the week.
The National Weather Service is forecasting a 70% chance of precipitation in the Baltimore area, with showers and thunderstorms becoming more likely during the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s, with southerly winds adding to the warmer, more humid feel.
Some storms could produce heavy rainfall and gusty winds. The timing and intensity of individual storms can still change as the forecast gets closer, so residents with outdoor plans should keep an eye on updated forecasts.
The unsettled pattern is expected to continue into Friday, although the rain and storm chances should be lower than Thursday’s. The current Baltimore forecast calls for a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, mainly during the afternoon and evening.
Weekend weather looks quieter
Conditions are expected to improve for the weekend. The latest National Weather Service forecast calls for mostly sunny weather Saturday with a high near 85 degrees, followed by another mostly sunny day Sunday with temperatures reaching around 87 degrees in Baltimore.
The warmer pattern may continue into early next week, with Monday’s high forecast near 89 degrees in Baltimore.
Ravens game could face a few weather concerns
The weather may also be a factor for fans heading to M&T Bank Stadium on Friday.
The Baltimore Ravens are scheduled to host the Washington Commanders in their third preseason game on Friday, Aug. 28, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium. The official Ravens schedule confirms the matchup and start time.
The current forecast calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, although the probability is lower than Thursday’s. Forecast details can still shift before kickoff, so fans planning to attend the game should check the latest weather information before heading to the stadium.
For now, Wednesday offers one more relatively quiet day before the more unsettled weather arrives. Thursday is shaping up as the main day to watch for storms, heavy rain and gusty winds, while conditions are expected to become more favorable again heading into the weekend.
