MAYS LANDING, N.J. — A Piscataway man has pleaded guilty to a drug distribution charge stemming from a traffic stop in Atlantic City earlier this year, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Colvin Cumberbatch, 43, entered his guilty plea last Thursday to third-degree possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. Under the plea agreement, prosecutors are recommending a three-year sentence in state prison.

The case began with a traffic stop by Atlantic City police on April 1, 2026. During the stop, a police K-9 indicated the possible presence of drugs, according to the prosecutor’s office.

A subsequent search of Cumberbatch’s person uncovered 213 wax folds of fentanyl, two clear plastic bags containing cocaine and 43 pills, which were later identified as methamphetamine, prosecutors said.

Cumberbatch was released while awaiting sentencing despite the State’s objection.

His sentencing is scheduled for September 29.

The guilty plea resolves the possession-with-intent-to-distribute charge arising from the April traffic stop. No additional outcome beyond the scheduled sentencing has been reported in the latest available information.
